The Grand Parade will play host to Drift City, Cape Town’s inaugural motorsport festival which is guaranteed to rev the engines and up the torque for young and old.
Drift City takes place on Sunday, 10 April 2016 when some of Cape Town’s top drifters will combine speed and smoke as they compete on a technical course.
‘Drift City is billed to be one of the city’s biggest motorsport festivals and car shows. The Grand Parade is the perfect setting, with Table Mountain as the backdrop to an event sure to get hearts and vehicles racing,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Tourism, Events and Economic Development, Councillor Garreth Bloor.
Drifters, car enthusiasts, and everyone who loves the smell of burning rubber and the sound of tortured tyres can gorge on tricked out BMWs, Nissans, Toyotas and more.
Events programme
Everyone can get into gear at the festival as Drift City will also feature go-karts and a skate park, while food trucks will ensure enough fuel to keep visitors going.
Those who want to get closer to the action, where the rubber meets the road, will have the opportunity to ride shotgun. Spectators will get strapped into a 500-horsepower drift machine and enjoy the smoky slides from the passenger seat.
‘Motor sport is growing and Drift City provides an opportunity for the growing number of enthusiasts to enjoy an adrenaline-filled day,’ said Councillor Bloor.
Tickets are R80 for adults and there is no charge for children under the age of six. For more information, residents should visit www.driftcity.co.za
