The Stikland City Improvement District (SCID), in partnership with the City of Cape Town, has begun a project to harden the verges along Willow Road that adjoins the new Transnet Railway boundary wall.
The City is currently carrying out several road resurfacing projects within Ward 3 in both Vredenebrg and Old Oak in Bellville. The millings from these projects were provided to the SCID team who are now formalizing the verges and creating hardened surfaces that will both solve the problem of weeds and sand along the verges, address parking and standing areas for heavy vehicles and also create a more pleasing verge, thereby adding to the character of the Stikland CID area.
The SCID team levelled the millings after they were delivered by the City’s contractors and will now compact the verges. The team will also service them periodically to ensure that they remain neat and well maintained.
‘The City’s roads and stormwater department welcomes partnerships with community organisations in order to assist and uplift areas through such initiatives,’ said Cllr Brendan Van Der Merwe, the ward councillor (Ward 3).
