City mourns the passing of Councillor Henry Davids
12 April 2018
The City of Cape Town is saddened by the passing of Councillor Henry Davids who lost his battle with cancer.
Councillor Davids passed away in hospital last night at the age of 66.
He has been a councillor for more than 18 months, having been elected to council in 2016.
He served on the Sustainability and Resilience Cluster Committee.
Prior to becoming a PR councillor in the City of Cape Town, he worked as a senior administrative officer at the University of the Western Cape. He has also been involved in prison ministries, working to integrate former inmates back into society, and doing community work in the Ravensmead area.
Councillor Davids availed himself for election into public office because he believed he could make a difference in the lives of the people he served.
Henry was more than just a councillor; he was a mentor and father figure to many of the younger councillors.
He is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren.
On behalf of the City of Cape Town, I extend my deepest condolences to Councillor Davids’s family, friends and colleagues.
