City improves road safety for pedestrians with new bridge in Lentegeur
21 November 2023
new pedestrian bridge in LentegeurThe City of Cape Town started with the construction of this pedestrian bridge in November last year and successfully completed the project within 12 months. The bridge is situated south of the R300 and west of AZ Berman Drive in Lentegeur, Mitchells Plain. The closest formal streets are Moses Kottler Crescent and Portulaca Street, Watergate Estate.

‘The location was originally used as an informal railway crossing, however we needed to ensure the safety of these commuters in this vicinity of Lentegeur. Our Urban Mobility Directorate then conceptualised the design of the bridge and constructed the infrastructure over the last year. It gave me great pleasure to see the impressive pedestrian bridge today especially the quality of the infrastructure. It is a relief that this pedestrian bridge has become a reality and will now provide a safe railway crossing to pedestrians who need to access the areas on the other side of the railway tracks; as well as access to the new MyCiTi station that will be located along AZ Berman Drive.
