City hosts another successful Bayhill Premier Cup

24 April 2019

The City and tournament organisers hosted another successful annual Bayhill Cup. The premier soccer tournament took place from 17 to 22 April 2019 at Erica Park in Belhar.

This event has been growing since the days that it first took place at the JP Rocklands Sports Ground in Mitchells Plain. It is now regarded as the perfect stage for talent scouts, managers and administrators to discover the next generation of soccer stars.

Of the 32 teams who participated, 23 are based in Cape Town, while eight were from other parts of the country and one foreign team also took part.

Highlands Park came out tops and received the winner’s trophy.

The City’s Recreation and Parks Department continues to be a key partner and contributed services to the value of R350 000 which included the playing fields, transport for teams, electricity and audio-visual equipment.

Investing in events of this caliber reaffirms the City’s commitment to inclusive youth development through partnerships with organisations and communities.

‘I would like to extend my gratitude to the event organisers who once again created a perfect scene where young talent could play the beautiful game and diverse communities could be brought together through sport. The event strengthens the partnership between the City, the organisers and our communities and is a great example of what can be achieved when we all work together.

‘To all of the teams who took part and to those who excelled, congratulations and may you reach your goals and continue to inspire our communities and especially our youth,’ said Councillor Zahid Badroodien, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health.
