City hands over radios to U-Watch Neighbourhood Watch in Woodstock

19 May 2016

The City of Cape Town’s Ward Councillor for Ward 57, Councillor Brett Herron, handed over two-way radios to the U-Watch Neighboorhood Watch at a special ceremony held at the Pinelands Council Chamber on Wednesday, 18 May 2016.

Ward 57 forms part of Subcouncil 15 and includes the areas of Mowbray, Zonnebloem, Salt River, Observatory, Woodstock and Vredehoek.

The donation was made possible through ward allocation funding in the amount of R50 000. U-Watch is the registered neighbourhood watch for Woodstock, University Estate and Walmer Estate. The radios will assist in improving response times and contribute towards making the community safer.

The City’s Law Enforcement Department will assist members of the neighbourhood watch with training on how to effectively utilise the radios.

‘We would like to thank the community members who volunteer countless hours to perform unnoticed and selfless acts, ensuring that communities are safer places to live and work. This initiative shows that together we can make progress possible and contribute to a sense of community pride,’ said Councillor Herron.
