City encourages residents to participate in Great Southern Bioblitz nature challengeThe City of Cape Town would like to encourage all residents and visitors to make use of this weekend to explore the beautiful natural environment that Cape Town has to offer, and while doing so, to capture all the plant and animal life they come across.
Over the next few days, residents from cities across the Southern Hemisphere will be taking part in a Spring City Nature Challenge, dubbed the “Great Southern BioBlitz”. Each year, Cape Town takes part in the global City nature challenge, however this always takes place in the Southern Hemisphere’s autumn months. Therefore it only seemed fair for the cities in the Southern Hemisphere to have the opportunity to boast with its beautiful and abundant Spring blooms and new life. The recordings over this weekend will particularly assist the City’s Biodiversity Management team in comparing Cape Town’s autumn and spring species lists.
The City is encouraging any interested individuals to participate this weekend by signing up to the iNaturalist website and going out into nature to make some observations of our amazing Spring biodiversity. The Challenge runs over four days from 25 – 28 September.
