City empowers beneficiaries with title deeds

13 April 2021

The City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Malusi Booi and other dignitaries, today, 13 April 2021, handed over title deeds to beneficiaries in Bloekombos, Kraaifontein.

Beneficiaries of the City’s Bloekombos housing development in Kraaifontein received their title deeds earlier today.

These transfers were made possible by the funding received from the Free Market Foundation’s Khaya Lam (My Home) initiative.

‘Receiving the title deed to your own home is of great value in many ways. It can be quite emotional as our beneficiaries have tangible proof that they are homeowners. The title deed also has more practical benefits. It becomes proof of the asset and empowers beneficiaries to use the asset for leverage where possible and when necessary, and to one day transfer ownership to their children.

‘It was a joyous occasion to celebrate with our beneficiaries today. A title deed is proof of ownership. You can only sell a property if you are the owner and you have proof in the form of a title deed. We wish our beneficiaries all the best for the future,’ said Councillor Booi.

'It is thanks to the sponsors, Remgro, whose generosity and empathy have made possible the funding of the conveyancing services and other related costs, and all those dedicated officials who have made this day possible. The Free Market Foundation’s Khaya Lam project, at the helm of which is Perry Feldman, has experienced amazing collaboration with everybody and thus all the efforts have culminated in this event where people receive their title deeds. The titled homes are now assets that are part of the national economy. This is a most glorious day,' said Temba A Nolutshungu, Director, Free Market Foundation.
