City currently attending to water supply disruptions in Sun Valley, Capri Village, Ocean View and Kommetjie

6 March 2023

The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate had to do emergency repairs at its Harrington Street water supply pump station which supplies the Brakkloof Reservoir

What residents need to know about larger-scale water supply disruptions:

  • Maintenance crews doing this work will endeavour to lessen the disruption to the water supply as far as possible.
  • All sites where water and sanitation repairs and upgrades are conducted are deemed to be construction sites and, as such, are off-limits to members of the public.
  • Sometimes the maintenance work can be more complex than anticipated, resulting in it taking longer.
  • For a short period after the supply has been restored, the water may be discoloured or look milky. This is because of trapped air in the pipes. If left to stand in a glass, the appearance will become clear, like normal.

How residents can cooperate during water supply disruptions:

  • Keep your taps closed to prevent any water loss and/or damage when the water supply is restored.

The Water and Sanitation Directorate has just completed doing emergency repairs at its water supply pump station in Harrington Street, Fish Hoek – this after the pumps failed to restart at the end of the load-shedding timeslot earlier today. In addition, thereto the maintenance crew is also attending to two pipe bursts on the water main in Harrington Street.

This has resulted in the disruption of the water supply to Sun Valley, Capri Village, Ocean View and Kommetjie. Some residents will experience low water pressure and others no water as the reservoir starts filling up.

Residents are kindly requested to reduce their consumption to essential use only during this period to assist the reservoir in reaching its operational level which is in excess of seventy percent storage capacity. This will take a while to happen due to the draw from the pipeline on its route to the reservoir as well.

The City appreciates the patience and cooperation of the residents during this time. The City sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused.
