The end result is impressive. I want to thank road users, visitors and residents for their patience and support while we were doing the work. Not only was this road resurfaced, but there were some infrastructure upgrades that include wider verges, extended boardwalks, formalised paved parking areas and sidewalks, as well as an upgraded stormwater system that has retaining walls, gabions and excellent infrastructure to assist with channelling runoff from rainfall events away from the road,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
The upgrades along Tafelberg Road includes the following:
- Restoration and upgrade of the road
- Rehabilitation of parking facilities
- Rehabilitation of stormwater infrastructure
- Building a sidewalk along the 1,3 km section of road to improve pedestrian safety
- Restoration of embankment retaining structures to protect the infrastructure against mudslides and severe weather events

‘I encourage our residents and visitors to do this walk and appreciate the amazing work that has been done here. It is a significant upgrade and it provides safer access for pedestrians all the way from Kloof Nek Road right up to the cableway,’ said Councillor Francine Higham.
