City commences with roadworks in Robinvale, Atlantis

12 October 2020

The City of Cape Town’s Transport Directorate has commenced with the resurfacing of various roads in Robinvale, Atlantis.

The roads and streets where this maintenance work will take place are as follows:

  • Albatross Place
  • Canary Place
  • Crow Crescent
  • Darters Place
  • Eagles Nest Road
  • Falcon Place
  • Flamingo Crescent
  • Gull Haven Road
  • Herons Place; and
  • Kingfisher Park Drive

The work will be implemented from 09:00 until 17:00 on weekdays, pending unforeseen delays and weather permitting. All road users will be affected, and traffic flow will be impacted in both directions. As such, flag personnel will regulate traffic, one direction at a time.

‘Our Transport Directorate is currently focusing on maintenance work to eradicate the backlog in repairs brought on by the COVID-19 lockdown restrictions, exacerbated by heavy winter rains. We have identified interventions by assessing the service requests from residents over the past few months and the programmes for the Atlantis area are now being rolled out. We have heard you and I want to assure residents that you will soon see the maintenance work underway,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Transport, Alderman Felicity Purchase.

Road users are advised that:

  • work areas will be temporarily demarcated to regulate traffic flow
  • vehicles may be parked in the driveways as normal, if and when access is available
  • parked vehicles that obstruct the resurfacing operation will be moved or towed away

No congestion is expected in the area, but the City recommends that road users consider making use of alternative routes as far as possible.

‘We are working around the clock to eradicate the maintenance backlog. In the meantime, we ask residents to please keep on reporting potholes and other damaged road infrastructure they come across to the Transport Information Centre on 0800 65 64 63,’ said Alderman Purchase.

The city-wide planned maintenance work is scheduled to take place across the city until April 2021, pending unforeseen delays and inclement weather.

Residents are reminded to please include their name, contact number and the exact location of the pothole when reporting it. The accuracy of these details will improve our response time. We want to thank our residents for working with us.
