City begins road resurfacing works across Somerset West
7 October 2026
The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate is upgrading road surfaces across Audas Estate, Golden Hill, La Concorde, Land en Zeezicht, Roundhay, Stuart’s Hill, The Link, Van der Stel and Westridge in Somerset West.
Work started today and will continue until Friday, 6 November 2026, with City teams on site from 07:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday. The work is weather permitting and may be affected by unforeseen delays.
‘Roadworks can be frustrating, particularly for residents and those who make regular use of the roads being worked on. These resurfacing projects are an important investment in safer, smoother and more comfortable journeys, while also helping to reduce vehicle operating costs over time. I would therefore like to thank residents and road users for their patience and understanding while we get this work done. Traffic in both directions will be affected, so where possible, motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and use alternative routes. By working together and allowing a little extra time for journeys, we can keep Cape Town moving,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
The Somerset West resurfacing work will include:
- Removing the old, worn road surface
- Laying a new, smooth layer of asphalt across the full width of the road
- Repairing and realigning damaged kerbs along the roads
- Repainting road markings once the work is complete
