City advises of water supply disruptions to the high-lying areas of Somerset West

15 January 2021

The City’s Water and Sanitation Department is currently attending to urgent repairs of a leak on its 840mm diameter bulk water main in the Firgrove area.

This water supply disruption is affecting the Heldervue and Wingerd areas.

The repair crew has been working around the clock to attend to the repairs which had some complications, but it is anticipated that the water supply will be restored during the early hours of tomorrow morning, Saturday 16 January 2021.

Residents in the high-lying areas of Somerset West will mostly be impacted and will either be experiencing low water pressure or no water during the period of repairs and are kindly requested to minimise their water consumption.

In the meantime, water from another reservoir will be re-routed to the affected areas to minimise the impact on the consumers while work is under way. The water will appear milky in colour as a result of the fine air bubbles, but is safe for consumption.

The City sincerely regrets the inconvenience, but it is imperative that it maintains its water supply infrastructure to benefit its residents.
