City advises of water supply disruption in Philippi

13 May 2022

Water supply to Philippi areas south of Govan Mbeki Road has been shut off due to a pipe burst

The Water and Sanitation team has shut off the supply to the surrounding industrial and residential areas south of Govan Mbeki Road, affecting the north-eastern part of Philippi. Exact details of the affected areas are still to be confirmed at this point in time.

Roads in the immediate area of the pipe burst may be inaccessible until the water has been drained.

The pipe repairs will unfortunately only commence once the civil works to drain the water and expose the damaged pipe have been completed. As such, the City will only be able to provide an estimated time to repair once the situation has been fully assessed.

A water tanker will be made available at the intersection of Govan Mbeki Road and Stock Road to provide the affected areas with water for domestic use where required. The affected consumers are kindly requested to keep their taps closed while repairs are in progress to prevent water loss and/or damage when the water supply is restored.

The City sincerely apologises for the inconvenience, but it is imperative that it maintains its water supply infrastructure to benefit its consumers.

Updates on this matter will be made available on the City Alerts Twitter page.
