City advises of possible water supply disruption in Upper City Bowl, Camps Bay and parts of the Atlantic Seaboard

18 July 2020

The City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Department is asking residents and businesses in the Upper City Bowl, Camps Bay and other parts of the Atlantic Seaboard area to please reduce their water consumption immediately to help sustain the water supply in the area.

The City’s Water and Sanitation Department has completed the first phase of repairing pumps at its major pumps station at the Molteno Reservoir. This pump station transfers water to reservoirs higher up in Oranjezicht as well as to Kloofnek above Camps Bay.

One of the two pumps have undergone emergency repairs and the other will be back in operation later next week as its repairs are more complicated. Currently there is one pump feeding both the Kloofnek and Oranjezicht reservoirs to maintain supply to the affected residents and businesses in the Upper City Bowl, Camps Bay and the Atlantic Seaboard areas.

Current water consumption in these areas is making it very difficult to build up storage in the reservoirs in an effort to sustain the water supply without disruptions. The City therefore kindly requests that the residents and businesses in the Upper City Bowl, Camps Bay and the Atlantic Seaboard areas to immediately reduce their water consumption to assist with maintaining water supply to the area until the repair of the second pump is completed and it is installed.

Every effort is being made to sustain the water supply under the prevailing conditions.

The City apologises for any inconvenience caused during this time. It is however imperative that the water supply infrastructure is maintained effectively to ensure a continued, reliable supply of drinking water to residents.
