Cape Town dam levels decline

28 April 2020

Dams supplying the Cape metro have declined by 0.3% over the past week (20 April – 26 April 2020) to 55,7% of total capacity.

Water consumption for the same period increased slightly to 669 million litres per day. Consumption the previous week was at 663 million litres per day.

‘While relatively low consumption levels could be in part attributed to the nationwide lockdown, which has seen a reduction in commercial and industrial activity, it is normal for consumption to drop as we head into the winter months. These figures are fairly close to what is normal for the winter months.

‘Hopes remain high that this winter will see the breaking of the worst drought on record,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Waste, Alderman Xanthea Limberg.
