A weekend of events for Cape Town
14 October 2026
Cape Town is set for a busy weekend, with the City’s Events Permit Office approving 20 events expected to collectively draw around 100 000 participants and spectators across the metro. The City would like to advise residents and motorists of the impact on the roads.
This week, Cape Town hosts grassroots football, Premier Soccer League football, European championship rugby, a marathon, and a traditional Malay choir competition in a packed weekend of events.
SAFA Cape Town Coca-Cola Amateur Cup finals, Investec Champions Cup game, the inaugural Nelson Mandela Marathon, and the Cape Malay Choir Board’s Annual Choral Competition will bring increased activity and traffic to several parts of the city this weekend.
Our priority is to help ensure that these events run safely while minimising disruptions to residents, motorists and surrounding communities. The City’s Events Coordinating Committee works closely with event organisers and SAPS to coordinate safety, transport and traffic arrangements. Cape Town’s events bring people together, support local economic activity and showcase our city’s diversity, and we want everyone to enjoy these experiences responsibly. We would like to alert residents, visitors and motorists to take note of the logistics for the various events and plan accordingly,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.
Cape Malay Choir Board’s Annual Choral Competition
One of Cape Town’s oldest active multi-national cultural organisations, the Cape Malay Choir Board, starts off the busy weekend of events when it hosts its Annual Choral Competition from Friday 16 October 2026 at 18:00.
Over three nights, choirs will compete for points and a place among the season’s leading contenders, while showcasing the City’s rich choral heritage.
The sectional rounds continue at the Artscape Theatre Centre from 16:30 until 23:00 on Saturday and Sunday.
Tickets for the competition are available through webtickets.

Spectators are encouraged to arrive early, make use of the available public transport and shuttle services, and allow additional travel time.
Nelson Mandela Marathon
The inaugural Nelson Mandela Marathon will bring together around 30 000 runners, who will take on four routes which highlight Cape Town’s beauty and parts of the city’s rich heritage.
The event combines sport, heritage and community, inviting participants to honour Madiba’s legacy while experiencing the city from a unique perspective.
The programme, on Sunday 18 October, includes a 42 km marathon, a half marathon, a 10 km race and a 5 km run.
Starting in Strand Street, the routes will take runners on a journey past District Six, Parliament, the Company’s Garden, Bo-Kaap and Green Point, while the marathon will also head towards Woodbridge Island in Milnerton.
Residents and motorists are advised of road closures and traffic disruptions at various points of the route between 04:30 and 13:30.
Impacted roads include Darling Street, Adderley Street, Long Street, Heerengracht Street, FW de Klerk Boulevard, a section of Nelson Mandela Boulevard, Somerset Road and Main Road in Green Point and Marine Drive through Paarden Eiland to Milnerton.
