Water safety needs to take centre stage<p>The City's Recreation and Parks Department expects an increase of visitors to beaches and other public recreational facilities, amid the heat advisory issued by the South African Weather Service.</p><p> </p><p>While we welcome visitors with open arms, it is absolutely critical that everyone pays close attention to their personal safety.</p><p> </p><p>The City reminds residents of its four golden rules, i.e.</p><p> </p><ul><li>Do not swim under the influence of alcohol</li><li>Do not leave children unsupervised in or around water</li><li>Do be aware of rip currents</li><li>Swim only between the red and yellow flags, where lifeguards are present<br><br> <br><br>Adherence to the designated and supervised swimming areas is particularly important. <br><br> <br><br>Cape Town has more than 300 kilometres of coastline, and given the prevailing weather conditions, it could be tempting to simply cool off at the nearest beach area.<br><br> <br><br>However, in the interest of public safety, we plead with visitors to only swim where, and when lifeguards are on duty.<br><br> <br><br>Below is a list of bathing areas with active lifeguard deployment between 10:00 and 18:00:<br><br> <br><br>Big Bay, Bikini Beach, Blue Waters, Camps Bay, Clifton 4<sup>th</sup> Beach, Danger Beach, Fish Hoek, Gordon's Bay, Harmony Park, Hout Bay, Llandudno, Macassar, Maiden's Cove, Melkbosstrand, Milnerton Main Beach, Mnandi, Monwabisi, Muizenberg, Silwerstroom (weekends only), St. James Tidal Pool, Strand and Strandfontein.<br><br> <br><br> <br><br><strong>End</strong></li></ul><p><br></p>2023-11-13T22:00:00ZGP0|#1d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70;L0|#01d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70|City news;GTSet|#62efe227-07aa-45e7-944c-ceebacca891dGP0|#550cea01-5fec-45fb-8509-f49cfc36c0e0;L0|#0550cea01-5fec-45fb-8509-f49cfc36c0e0|Safety;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GP0|#b3944db5-5a48-4716-82c1-84dc2f19d9c6;L0|#0b3944db5-5a48-4716-82c1-84dc2f19d9c6|recreation and amenities10
