Title deeds handed over to Manenberg home owners

Officials in the City’s Human Settlements Directorate handed over 10 title deeds to beneficiaries of The Downs housing project in Manenberg today, 15 September 2022

The Downs housing project in Manenberg is expected to be completed in November 2022, if all goes according to plan. The R77 million project is located on five different sites in the area and will provide 587 housing opportunities to qualifying beneficiaries. It is an example of the City's commitment to providing affordable housing on suitable land in and near urban centres. 'We are pleased to assist beneficiaries with the title deeds to their homes at our Manenberg housing project. The City is committed to addressing the inequality of the past where the majority of our residents were denied ownership of property. Security of tenure is a priority for the City's Human Settlements Directorate. <figure class="subtopic-fullsize-img"> <img src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/Media%20Centre/Cllr%20Malusi%20and%20Nomfundo%20Thole.jpg" class="responsive" alt="" style="width:933px;" /> </figure>'We will continue to ensure that title deeds are handed over to first-time property owners across the metro. Our title deed handover programme is ongoing and we look forward to handing over many more title deeds to qualifying beneficiaries across the metro in the coming months.
