Mayor Hill-Lewis makes second stop on city-wide Clean-Up Campaign

Last week, we launched a major city-wide Clean-Up Campaign in Mitchell’s Plain Town Centre. Today we are in Cravenby cleaning illegal dumping spots.

Over the course of the next couple of months, I will visit various parts of the City. I hope that community organisations and residents’ associations can join in this important initiative. A collaborative effort will move us closer to the vision of civic pride, and I’m calling on all residents to get involved. Let’s Keep Cape Town Clean Together!

More than 180 000 tonnes of waste is cleared annually from illegal dumping hotspots city-wide. Illegal dumping cost the City more than R300 million over the last year – money which could have been used on more valuable projects to uplift residents.
To support behaviour change, we allocated an extra R5 million in the January Adjustment Budget for a City-wide clean-up campaign.

The City is enforcing stronger fines and penalties for illegal dumping to stop this disrespect for our communities. We ask residents to remind their friends, neighbours or loved ones that littering and illegal dumping is wrong. We want adults to teach our young people about the importance of putting litter in the bin, and that littering prevents spaces from being safe, open and enjoyable.

Please report illegal dumping to 0860 103 089.

Help us to support the efforts of the City’s Solid Waste team by not illegally dumping or discarding waste in the street.

This is for you, for your community, and your City.

End

2022-02-08T22:00:00ZGP0|#1d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70;L0|#01d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70|City news;GTSet|#62efe227-07aa-45e7-944c-ceebacca891dGP0|#8734a1c1-e63b-41d0-a172-cb70cf65694a;L0|#08734a1c1-e63b-41d0-a172-cb70cf65694a|waste;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GPP|#68b084a3-f238-4e33-8c08-97910537f68d;GPP|#ae19c2bf-06c6-40b2-9faa-4ba4f85f4bed;GPP|#488a252c-b852-4f59-b559-f191cb367380;GP0|#90ff6e6b-739b-4655-9dcf-f0afbedab142;L0|#090ff6e6b-739b-4655-9dcf-f0afbedab142|Dumping;GP0|#792a36fa-9d0a-4f24-9f63-98557db59729;L0|#0792a36fa-9d0a-4f24-9f63-98557db59729|Mitchells Plain10
