Hangberg Youth Day programme makes a difference<p>​</p><span><p>​​​​​​The City of Cape Town’s Recreation and Parks Department offered the young people of Hangberg multiple activities, including sport, indigenous games, career exhibitions and even a potjie competition, on Youth Day.</p> <figure class="subtopic-fullsize-img"> <img src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/Media%20Centre/hangberg11.jpg" class="responsive" alt="" style="width:948px;" /> </figure></span><span><div>At Hangberg Sport and Recreation Centre, the festivities attracted 200 youth from the area who were invited to play any of their favourite sport, consult City staff on registering for employment opportunities or be inspired by the motivational speakers who were selected based on their knowledge of the community and ability to uplift youth at risk. </div><div><br></div><div>Other motivational speakers reminded the youth of the historical events leading up to June 16 being declared a public holiday, commemorating the Soweto uprising in 1976. </div><div><br><br></div> <figure class="subtopic-fullsize-img"> <img src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/Media%20Centre/hangberg12.jpg" class="responsive" alt="" style="width:948px;" /> </figure></span><span><div>Non-profit organisation, Community Social Angels, led segments of the programme targeted at youth at risk of gang associations and negative influences, encouraging them to seek help and opt to develop skills and talents that uplift society. </div><div><br></div><div>‘By investing in our young people, we are investing in a better future for our communities.
