Graduates called to register on City’s internship database by 18 August 2023Graduates called to register on City’s internship database by 18 August 2023<img alt="" src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/PublishingImages/City%20news.jpg" width="1440" style="BORDER:0px solid;" /><p>The City of Cape Town’s Human Resources Department encourages unemployed graduates who reside in Cape Town to register on its internship database before 18 August 2023 in order to be considered for the City’s various training and skills development opportunities over the next year.<br></p><p>‘The City has various graduate internship and skills development opportunities that become available during the course of the year as the operational needs arise across the Municipality’s various departments. We therefore need a solid database of qualified graduates who meet the requirements and would be ready and available to pursue these opportunities when the specific applications open. <br></p><p>‘I encourage young graduates, as well as those who have attained the National Senior Certificate and are currently unemployed, to take the first step and register their details. An opportunity best suited to their qualification could become available, and once registered, this will allow them to be considered,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Corporate Services, Alderman Theresa Uys.</p><div>Through these graduate internships and skills development programmes, the City aims to offer the kind of training and work experience that helps individuals to succeed in the job market and find permanent employment.</div><div> </div><div>To register on this database, applicants will first need to:</div><ul><li>register for e-Services and activate the careers service via e-Services</li><li>Once this is activated, an online CV will need to be created. Here applicants are to fill in their personal details, education and training, work experience, and qualifications.</li></ul> <div>Importantly, the following digital copies need to be uploaded:</div><div>•        Identification document (ID)</div><div>•        Cover letter</div><div>•        Qualifications such as a matric certificate, diploma or degree; and any references.</div><div> <br> </div><div>Once the online CV has been created, applicants will be able to visit the City’s job search and look for the internship they want to register for. </div><div> <br> </div><div>The specific programme’s applicants would be considered for include the following: </div><div> <br> </div><div> <strong>Graduate Internship Programme (GIP)</strong></div><div>The City offers graduate internship programmes to graduate students who have completed their qualification at an Institution of Higher Learning (University/University of Technology). To qualify for a graduate internship, you must be in possession of a bachelor's degree or postgraduate qualification.</div><div> </div><div>Requirements:</div><div>•        A three-year Diploma/National Diploma (from a registered University or University of Technology) or from an accredited academic institution of higher learning. </div><div>•        Advanced Diploma/B-tech </div><div>•        Degree </div><div>•        Honours </div><div>•        Masters </div><div>•        PhD</div><div> </div><div> <strong>Infrastructure Skills Development Grant (ISDG) programme</strong></div><div>This programme prepares graduates for the world of work and gives them exposure to various fields, ensuring that they are registered or eligible for registration with the relevant statutory councils such as the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP), Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), South African Geomatics Council (SAGC) and South African Council for Planners (SACPLAN).</div><div> </div><div>Requirements:</div><div>To qualify for the ISDG programme, graduates need to be between the ages of 18 and 35, and be in possession of either a BSc Eng; BSc Hons; MTech; MSc; PhD; BTech; M.Eng qualification in one of the following fields: </div><div>•        Civil/Chemical/Mechanical/Electrical or Industrial Engineering</div><div>•        Urban and Regional Town Planning</div><div>•        Environmental Science</div><div>•        Materials Science</div><div>•        Microbiology</div><div>•        Biotechnology</div><div>•        Virology</div><div>•        Chemical Science</div><div>•        Chemistry</div><div>•        Atmospheric Science</div><div>•        Hydrogeology</div><div>•        Geographical Information System (GIS)</div><div>•        Geochemistry</div><div>•        Hydrology</div><div>•        Data Science</div><div> </div><div> <strong>Geographical Information Systems programme</strong></div><div>The key learning areas of this programme focuses on:</div><div>•<span style="white-space:pre;"> </span>Data cleaning, maintenance and systems administration </div><div>•<span style="white-space:pre;"> </span>Data mining, preparation and analysis used in geo-spatial analysis and built environment trends </div><div>•<span style="white-space:pre;"> </span>Spatial data analysis and presentation formulation </div><div>•<span style="white-space:pre;"> </span>Research and assistance with the development of new platforms for exhibition of products </div><div>•<span style="white-space:pre;"> </span>Project management and administration </div><div>•<span style="white-space:pre;"> </span>Professional conduct and relationship building </div><div> </div><div>Requirements:</div><div>•        Bacc, BTech (Honours) or Masters Degree in Geographical Information Systems, Geomatics, Geo-informatics, Geo-spatial Science, Data Science/ Data informatics (with specific reference to applicability in context of urban planning, development and monitoring and analysis of land use and building trends). </div><div> •        Bacc, BTech (Honours) or Masters Degree in Town Planning or City and Regional Planning (four-year undergraduate or post graduate Master’s degree) with specific focus on GIS, geo-spatial analysis in the natural and build environment from a recognised University in South Africa (or internationally) or University of Technology.</div><div> </div><div> <strong> Skills programme</strong></div><div>This programme is aimed at those in possession of Grade 10/11 or a National Senior Certificate (Grade12)/ N1 - N5/ Level 2 -4).</div><div> </div><div>It provides practical exposure and aims to provide structured practical learning opportunities. The Skills Programme has a quarterly intake of candidates throughout the year.</div><div> </div><div>Work Integrated Learning (WIL) programme </div><div>This programme integrates academic learning with its application in the workplace where such learning is a specific requirement to obtain a formal qualification.
