This road extension forms part of the City’s Congestion Management Strategy, which aims to alleviate traffic congestion in the Kuils River area

|
'The extension of Saxdowns Road provides an important new link road between Bottelary Road in the north and Van Riebeeck Road in the south. The contractor has commenced with minor exploratory works over the last two weeks and the roadworks will take place between 07:30 and 17:30 on weekdays and on consecutive Saturdays when needed. If all goes according to plan, we aim to complete the project in the third quarter of 2025. This single carriageway will complete the missing link in Saxdowns Road and will provide decent road access and non-motorised transport infrastructure in support of this fast developing residential area.

'The intention is to complete the arterial road network within the Kuils River area as part of the City's congestion alleviation programme and to reduce delays and improve access through a more balanced distribution of traffic,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

The improvements will include:

Extending Saxdowns Road with the construction of a single carriageway between Langverwacht Road in the north to Van Riebeeck Road in the south; and the dualling of the road at its intersections with Langverwacht Road and Van Riebeeck Road

Construction of universally accessible sidewalks on either side of the new extended Saxdowns Road

Construction of a bicycle lane

Installation of a new traffic signal at the Van Riebeeck Road intersection

Street lighting

Installation of a large stormwater pipe along Van Riebeeck Road to the canal at Dumas Road

'We will keep appropriate signage visible over this period, however, we urge residents to please stay clear of the construction site.
