Westridge Gardens
About
Westridge Gardens, situated in Mitchells Plain, features a variety of flora, including indigenous Cape fynbos. The winding pathways and vast open lawns are ideal for summer picnics, leisurely strolls and wedding photographs. The skateboard ramp situated in the park is a popular attraction for local youth. There is also a play area that includes facilities for children with disabilities.
Community concerts and festive programmes are held here annually, which include the popular summertime Concerts in the Park and the Mitchells Plain Festival. Westridge Gardens can also be hired for events and small functions, and is frequently used for weddings and children’s parties. In 2010, Westridge Gardens received R103 000 through ward allocations and a further R200 000 through an Urban Renewal Fund grant. Part of this funding went to establish a rose garden which was officially opened in April 2011.
