Public Participation Department

Public Participation Department

What we do

We engage with communities on important and relevant issues via ward committee meetings, sessions with organisations and other special platforms.

We also ensure meaningful, tailor-made departmental public participation processes to better serve communities. We do this by coordinating, monitoring and advising departments on the best public participation approach to follow for their projects/programmes.

Our department is responsible for:

  • creating partnerships with non-governmental organisations, community organisations and the private sector on issues that require public participation, information sharing and awareness campaigns;
  • continuous public engagements and information analysis;
  • improving and accelerating the processing of community feedback;
  • integrating feedback from various platforms;
  • monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of our services in communities;
  • establishing a petition management system.

We encourage active dialogue with residents and engage with as many communities as we can.

Our department:

  • continuously educates communities regarding their role in public participation;
  • proactively prepares and provides communities with information related to programmes and projects that are relevant to their areas;
  • implements targeted interventions based on analyses of community needs and priorities;
  • coordinates and manages information sharing sessions across Cape Town, informing communities of service delivery issues in their areas;
  • establishes platforms to raise awareness on service delivery challenges in communities; and
  • continuously communicates with communities on the City’s performance in their areas.
