Register your pet

All residents are required to register their pets, so the City can monitor and control Cape Town’s animal population. If you would like to register your pet, then follow the process below.

How to register your pet

Please note

According to the Animal Keeping By-law, if your permit to keep a cat or dog has been cancelled; you previously had a cat or dog removed from your care, or you have a previous criminal conviction or civil judgment against you in respect of a dog or cat in your care then you may not keep a dog or cat - unless the City determines otherwise.

Our Animal Keeping By-law specifies how many pets you can own based on the size of your property. By registering your pet, you provide us with useful information that will help with animal welfare planning and budgeting.
