Apply for a WMD water consumption increase

When you install a water management device (WMD), you are limiting the amount of water you use per day to a specific amount. Once you reach that limit, the device will stop releasing water and will reset the next morning to provide another prescribed allocation. You can increase the daily amount by following the process below.

WMD daily increase

Step 1: Download and complete the Increase Water Management Device Supply Application Form from the document downloads section below.

The City's approach to domestic metering is being revised, with implementation planned for July 2021. Please read our media release in this regard for further information.

Step 2: Submit your application to the nearest City walk-in centre. If the application is approved, your daily consumption amount will increase.

Include the following along with your application:

  • a copy of property owner’s ID document (if there is more than one registered property owner, both IDs are required);
  • a copy of your municipal account;
  • salary advice (for both owners if there is more than one registered owner);
  • 3 months of bank statement (for both owners if there is more than one registered owner); and
  • strong motivation for the increase in consumption.

Indigent property owners

As an indigent property owner, you can apply to increase your monthly water consumption of 15kl if:

  • There are more than 10 people living in the household
  • There are sick people living in the household

To apply, download and complete the application form.

Include the following documents with your application:

  • Certified copies of IDs of all members of the household
  • Completed affidavit of all adults in the household
  • Proof of medical reason (if applicable)

Email the completed application form and supporting documents to water@capetown.gov.za or hand it in at your nearest walk-in centre.
