It follows a different model and looks very different. It involves income thresholds in general
<strong>between R1 850 and R32 000</strong>.</p><h2 class="sectHeading">How to apply </h2><p>Before you can apply for social housing, you are required to
<a href="https://www.capetown.gov.za/City-Connect/Register/Housing-and-property/Register-on-the-housing-database">register on the City's housing needs register</a>. </p><p>If your joint monthly income and needs meet certain criteria, you could qualify to rent social housing from City partners. Social housing apartments are built on City-owned land in partnership with social housing institutions (SHIs), with National Government supplying the funding from their Social Housing Subsidy. </p><p>Unfortunately, national funding has drastically dried up. The City is therefore looking at enhanced ways to provide affordable housing in collaboration with the private sector. </p><p>We are open for business and material changes and policies are being developed and will be communicated soon. </p><div class="lrg-icon-content bordered"><div class="lrg-icon lrg-check"><p>
<b>To qualify for a social and affordable housing opportunity, you must:</b></p><ul><li>be 21 years or older; </li><li>have a clean credit record (affordability); </li><li>be a South African citizen or permanent resident; </li><li>be married or single, with or without dependents; </li><li>be competent to contract; and </li><li>be able to pay the required monthly rental. </li></ul></div></div>
