Swimming pools set to open with different strokes<p>​<span aria-hidden="true"></span><span aria-hidden="true"></span>​The City of Cape Town’s Recreation and Parks Department will start to reopen municipal swimming pools from Friday, 16 October 2020, but to ensure adherence to the regulations under Alert Level 1 of the National Disaster Management Act, it will not be business as usual.<span aria-hidden="true"></span></p><p>Patrons are requested to familiarise themselves with the regulations and limitations before visiting our facilities.</p><p>The number of patrons allowed at open swimming pools has been reduced by 50% of each pool’s capacity, therefore if the maximum capacity of a pool is 500 patrons, only 250 will be allowed into the facility.</p><p>Screening will be done on entry and persons with a temperature reading of over 38 degrees Celsius will not be permitted to enter the facility.</p><p>Patrons are required to observe social distancing in and around the pool and take cognisance of social distancing floor/wall stickers, specifically at the entrance and around the pool deck.</p><p>While facility staff will be on hand to clean and disinfect the facilities, patrons are required to sanitise their hands frequently and adhere to all the safety signage displayed around the pool at all times.</p><p>No showers or changing facilities will be available.</p><p>The Recreation and Parks Department has 38 Swimming pools situated across the City, three of which are located inside resorts. This is for exclusive use by visitors to the resorts. Resort swimming pools will open from 1 December 2020.</p><p>Twenty of the 35 municipal swimming pools will be ready to officially open on 16 October, while the remaining 15 will open on alternate dates due to the extent of the repairs and upgrades underway at each pool.</p><p>The following swimming pools will be open from 16 October 2020 until 12 April 2021: Atlantis, Trafalgar, Langa, Khayelitsha, Athlone, Bonteheuwel, Goodwood, Hanover Park, Manenberg, Ruyterwacht, Brown's Farm, Eastridge, Lentegeur, Mnandi, Muizenberg, Westridge and Wynberg.</p><p>The Sea Point, Strand, and Retreat swimming pools will open on 16 October and remain open for the year.</p><p>The swimming pools which will open later due to maintenance currently taking place are: <br>• Kensington and Delft from 1 November 2020<br>• Blue Downs indoor swimming pool will open on 1 November 2020 and remain open throughout the year<br>• Bellville, Parow North, Emthonjeni, Vulindlela and Bellville South from 1 December 2020 <br>• Long Street from 14 December 2020 and will remain open throughout the year<br>• Elsies River from 15 December 2020<br>• Parow Valley from 1 January 2021<br>• Morningstar will open from 2 January 2021 <br>• Ravensmead and Newlands from 1 February 2020</p><p>All the pools will close on 12 April 2021 unless otherwise specified.</p><p>I encourage residents to make use and take ownership of our facilities, which are there for their enjoyment. </p><p>At the same time, I ask that patrons take note of the regulations and work with our staff to ensure adherence for the safety of everyone.</p><p> </p>2020-10-08T22:00:00ZGP0|#1d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70;L0|#01d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70|City news;GTSet|#62efe227-07aa-45e7-944c-ceebacca891dGP0|#68c4f1e6-ecaa-448f-af9b-d20905ece7db;L0|#068c4f1e6-ecaa-448f-af9b-d20905ece7db|Recreation;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GP0|#24aec1a8-6b7e-4ca2-a2ee-0687aa99a7a1;L0|#024aec1a8-6b7e-4ca2-a2ee-0687aa99a7a1|swimming pool;GPP|#3000e814-db15-4d80-8852-2077304275bd;GP0|#91253130-34d5-4a4b-9c25-1b114821765c;L0|#091253130-34d5-4a4b-9c25-1b114821765c|Resorts1
