Mayor Dan Plato to distribute 20 000 COVID-19 hygiene care packs
Since the start of the national lockdown three months ago, the City of Cape Town has supported nearly 150 soup kitchens, conducted awareness campaigns around handwashing and social distancing, distributed more than 200 000 face masks to residents, business owners, and front line staff, and supplied 2 800 SMMEs with toolkits to safely reopen. The latest effort to help reduce the spread is the distribution of a COVID-19 hygiene pack.

As the peak of the virus reaches us, we need to be extra vigilant in our efforts to limit the spread. With many residents either out of work or without an income, the City of Cape Town is stepping in to help vulnerable residents limit the spread of COVID-19. Ward councillors have identified those most in need within their wards.

‘After engaging with our ward councillors, 67 wards have been identified as most in need of assistance and will receive the packs to assist residents in limiting the spread of the virus. In addition to the soup kitchen support and food parcels, which we have distributed to assist with feeding families in need, we have also seen the need to provide communities with the essentials to help curb the spread of the virus. We have continued to share the message of wearing a mask, washing your hands and practicing social distancing. This care pack is another element in our fight against the Coronavirus,’ said Executive Mayor Dan Plato.

Areas such as Khayelitsha, Nyanga, Gugulethu, Bothasig, Scottsdene, Fish Hoek, Steenberg, and Mamre are among the areas set to receive the packs.

The pack includes a COVID information fact sheet in English, Afrikaans and isiXhosa, as well as the following items:

- Sanitiser
- Soap
- Washable face mask
- Face cloth
- Washing powder
- MedLemon
- Vicks VapoRub
- Tissues

We can make it through this as #OneCityTogether.
2020-06-30T22:00:00ZGP0|#1d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70;L0|#01d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70|City news;GTSet|#62efe227-07aa-45e7-944c-ceebacca891dGP0|#ca20ab12-25df-4a8e-8a72-fc1113ee4a26;L0|#0ca20ab12-25df-4a8e-8a72-fc1113ee4a26|donations;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb1
