Resolution detail

RESOLVED that the application for extension of trading hours from 11:00 – 18:00, SUNDAY, submitted by TOPS CAPE STATION, STATION SQUARE, SHOP G04-7, ADDERLEY STREET, FORESHORE, CAPE TOWN, BE REFUSED, due to:

a) The potential to  exacerbate issues related to public intoxication, disorderly behaviour, and safety risks on public transport
b) An increased availability of alcohol during late hours could lead to higher incidences of noise disturbances, disruptive behaviour, and potential safety issues for the student residents
c) Increased Risk of Crime and Vandalism: Late-night alcohol sales can lead to higher crime rates and vandalism, increasing city maintenance and policing costs.
d) Impact on Local Businesses: Extended hours could create a rowdy environment, negatively affecting nearby businesses.
e) Public Health Concerns: More alcohol availability could lead to health issues, accidents, and public safety concerns.
f) Community Relations and Perceptions: A late-night liquor store could be seen as disruptive and neglectful of community needs.
g) Negative Environmental Impact: Increased alcohol sales may lead to more littering and require additional waste management efforts.
h) PRASA’s Comments: Historical challenges faced from previous Liquor sales
