Resolution detail
The Subcouncil manager gave an opportunity to Stephanie Sirmongpong to explain the vaccine programme.
Ms. Sirmongpong said that they almost completed with the Health Care
workers, last week 70% of the people that were vaccinated, the remaining percentage is those who are refusing to be vaccinated for their personal reasons. The largest areas that still needs to be vaccinated for phase 1 are; Khayelitsha, Klipfontein which consists of more of health support staff. They were supposed to start with phase 1B for fire workers on Tuesday but that was put on hold as they are waiting on the committee for approval. National Government has put in place a launch for the community members who are over 60 and vulnerable groups to register online for the vaccine. However, looking at this at a City level we acknowledge that not everyone will have access to online registration as some people do not have smart phones.
She added that they are putting processes in place for people to register on site. Currently they are busy choosing community sites that will be used but unfortunately there are no facilities within COCT that can be used as vaccination site. Between Provincial government and the COCT they will cover one area with a site so they are communicating with province to avoid duplication. They are looking to start with community vaccination around the 17th of May depending on the results from the committee. She added that there are two vaccines, Johnson and Johnson is a one dose, the other one has two doses. Training has been offered to those who will be assisting with vaccination. Other Subcouncil indicated that information regarding the side effects of the vaccine is missing on the report, she further requested Alison to consider those comments. However, she still explained that being vaccinated does not mean you will not get the virus but means that it will not be severe as compared to when you are not, she added that people should continue with wearing of masks, sanitizing and maintaining social distancing.
There was unanimous agreement with the resolution.
