PUBLIC PARTICIPATION PLAN FOR THE CITY OF CAPE TOWN CLIMATE CHANGE STRATEGY

The Official Ms A Davison informed the Subcouncil members that the purpose of the report is to consult with Subcouncils regarding the public participation plan for the City of Cape Town Climate change Strategy as per the Standard Operating Procedures for the Management and Administration of Public Participation Conducted by the City of Cape Town

The Subcouncil members agreed that the report to serve at the ward committee meeting and written comments be submitted to the Department or Subcouncil.

Cllr Moses informed the members that Strandfontein coastal road is being affected by climate change and asked the official if policy is addressing the changes in coastal management.  Cllr Nqavashe welcomed the report and informed the members of the effect that climate change has on the coastline e.g. high waves crashing over the Sea point pavilion. He advocated that groups be organized to talk to the community e.g. community based teams to start from Gordons Bay to Fish Hoek and from Atlantis to Llandudno.

Cllr Gungxe welcome the Climate Change Strategy information and said it is a global issue.  Ald. Antonio van der Rheede proposed that Cllr Nqavashe be the eyes and ears representative for the climate change issue which affects us all especially people living near the seaboard.  Cllr Nqavashe agreed to represent the Subcouncil and send Ms A Davison an email scheduling further engagements.

Cllr Achmat welcomed the report an agreed that Climate Change Strategy information must be shared with the communities and referred to the Covid19 pandemic that affected the poorest of the poor.

Mr J Cedras reminded Councillors of Arbor day and requested that Councillors submit request for trees. He said planting a tree help with the carbon footprint and minimize global warming.
