Resolution detail

PRINCIPLES AND PROCEDURES FOR COMMUNITY-DRIVEN PLANNING INITIATIVES

Ms Kruger-Fountain of Urban Planning and Design gave a detailed presentation on
Community Driven Planning and highlighted the following:
  • The city is built by many role players and processes.
  • In light of this, community involvement or participation in planning our city should be encouraged in a manner that is inclusive, fair and equitable.
  • This report aims to ultimately address the question of the City's role and level of involvement in community-driven local area or precinct scale planning outside of the City's own work programme and priorities.
  • The purpose of this report is to reiterate the challenges and principles (building on those established in 2007) of a City approach to community-orientated local spatial /precinct planning.
Cllr Kleinschmidt wanted to know what the time period was for the approval of basic plans.
Ms Kruger-Fountain said that she was not familiar with that section but would get back to the SC once she has found out that information.
Ms Liebenberg informed the meeting that Chad Newman is the official that could give them that information.
Ald Cavanagh stated that the timeline for approval of plans would probably depend on the type of development, e.g. housing development or industrial development. He thanked the official for a very comprehensive presentation.

RESOLVED that:

The content of the Principles and Procedures for Community-driven Planning Initiatives be NOTED.
