Resolution detail

Ward 60

Mr Lombard of Recreation and Parks reported on all the Parks projects in the SC and highlighted that there were some delays regarding the appointment of some tenders as the previous tender expired. He said that this was resolved and they have met with the contractor regarding 8th Avenue Park on 10 February 2020.

The vendor provided a quotation for the installation of the fence and the vendor anticipated completion by the end of April 2020. With regard to the Upgrade Eco Park, Chukker Road, Mr Lombard said that they are in process to compete the works project document and that orders will be placed soon. The anticipated commencement of the work will be during March 2020 and estimated completion by the end of April. He said that this process was followed for all the parks in SC 17 and the deadlines are more or less the same.

Cllr Kleinschmidt said that when the walk way is done in Eco Park, it would attract a very large crowd and said that the City needed to think of traffic congestion and parking as cars will park in Chukker Road. Cllr Kleinschmidt said that his NHW radio’s do not work and wanted to know if the official was present to speak to the neighbourhood watch equipment.

Ward 48

Ms Salie reported that the Vygieskraal security hut will be up by next week as she personally spoke to the vendor. She said that the savings on the Sports festival will be spent on stationery and this will be divided between the three ward Councillors.

Cllr Davids reported that some of the NHW equipment was delivered and he needed to liaise with the official when the other equipment would be delivered. He informed the house that his seniors citizen capacity building event will take place 11 March 2020.

Cllr R Adams pointed out that the radio’s issued by Safety and Security can only work for a certain distance. He said that he has reported this to the official, but did not receive any response yet.

Ald March wanted to know why the official that deals with the neighbourhood watch equipment never attends Subcouncil meetings and requested that the SC Manager requests Mr Anton Visser to a meeting in the boardroom.

Ward 49

Mr Heyns of Strategic Assets reported that there are two major projects happening at Athlone Stadium (C14.00035-F2), i.e. the lifts and the lighting. He told the house that the lifts contractor is on site and that parts have arrived from the overseas

supplier. He said that the orders have been placed for the North parking. He said that the media room was almost completed and should be done by the end of April and the staff room by the end of the financial year.

Cllr R Adams said that he is very impressed with the upgrade of the Athlone Stadium and that the community is encouraged to make use of the facility. He recommended that the SC does a site visit to the facility as this was a perfect example of money well-spent.

Mr De Bruyn of Solid Waste Management reported that an Environmental Assessment Practitioner has been appointed for the Material Recovery Facility project (CPX.0007847-F2). He said that the bulk of the funding will be spent by the end of May and the rest early June.

Cllr R Adams stated that he was happy with the progress of the Arts and Culture Project and that the R0,00 expenditure was not a true reflection.

He said that he works closely with the official and know that some money has been spent on the project already.
