COMMUNITY SERVICES AND HEALTH DIRECTORATE: CITY HEALTH DEPARTMENT AREA CENTRAL: KLIPFONTEIN SERVICES DELIVERY REPORT FOR JULY 2018 TO DECEMBER 2018 (LSU 3239)

Ms Y Mentese informed the members of the Subcouncil that the report deals with progress by Community Services and Health Directorate made during the period July 01 2018 to 31 December 2018.

The members made the following comments;

  • Cllr Nqavashe highlighted the SDBIP Indicator at Hanover Park Clinic number of reproductive < 18 years reproductive health clients target was 105 and only achieved 49%, cervical smear coverage 47%, antenatal 1st visit before 20 weeks 47%. He said crime cannot be an excuse that targets are not achieved and the facility need to render service to the community.
  • Cllr Cassiem reported that Letaba road is a hotspot for dumping and requested that the canals be closed to prevent illegal dumping and wasteful expenditure by continual cleaning.
  • Cllr Moses asked what remedial measures are in place.
  • Cllr Ngcombolo said he urgently need Health Inspection and Environmental Specialists with regards to Somafho Hostel currently situated at NY 121 in Gugulethu. The community is protesting for services. The building does not belong to the City of Cape Town and there is no electricity and water. There are also electrical illegal connections and the building itself is in a very bad state. There is illegal dumping taking place and there are families and children currently staying inside the building. The building is infested with rats. Cllr Ngcombolo said he needs urgent intervention of Environmental Health Department to assess and furnish the Subcouncil with the report on the risk status of the building and it is required by the MAYCO in order to deal with the matter.
  • Cllr Nqavashe suggested that Wayne of problem buildings be approached to submit the latest report on the structural soundness of this building and the Subcouncil will be requesting Wayne to assist in that regard
