23SUB3/6/2018: Miss Meyer advised the following response was received from the line department:
I refer to your request for traffic calming in Sewende Laan. The City of Cape Town Traffic Calming Policy (CoCT) aims to protect the most vulnerable road users, where they occur in the largest numbers on a Class 4 Collector Street and/or Class 5 Local Street in a residential area in the vicinity of public facilities, with roads adjacent to and leading to schools being the primary focus of attention. This being the case, a systematic program is in place for the treatment of all educational facilities over the next few years as a priority, which will not permit Transport Network Development (TND) budget to be used for traffic calming measures at other locations.
Sewende Laan is a peri-urban, not a Class 4 or 5 residential road. Our assessment indicates that there are no schools or public facilities along Sewende Laan and therefore is non-compliant with the Traffic Calming Policy Directives Section 7(3). Unless proven otherwise, Traffic Calming will not be considered further along Sewende Laan.
Cllr Jansen requested Nadia to write to Tim de Villiers. He indicated there are two schools Strandfontein High and Strandfontein Primary School which might not be directly opposite Sewende Laan but down the road.
