Subcouncil 18 did NOT SUPPORT the application for extension of liquor trading hours off-consumption Sunday, 11:00-18:00 for Diamonds Discount Liquors, Grassy Park for the following reasons : •The area where Diamonds Discount Liquor is situated is an existing high crime area ; •Opposite Diamond Liquors it Princess Vlei Recreation forest and braai area which is open to the public over weekends. •Extending of the trading hours will lead to an increase in crime and will result in Princess Vlei recreation forest becoming a crime “ hotspot ”area; •The extended hours will attract more criminals and vagrants to the area, which is currently a major concern to Grassy Park SAPS ; •Diamond Liquors is also situated directly next to a church and should the trading hours be extended, it could interfere with the church services conducted during the day and evening, attracting unwanted criminals as well as vagrants ; •The area is already a busy area and traffic congestion are already a major concern in the area.
