The good news is that there will be temporary access to the popular St James Walkway, and a section of the western parking area will be available to the public during the builders’ break. Read more below:
|
The upgrade of the Muizenberg beachfront commenced in February 2025 on the western side of Surfer’s Corner. Work is currently under way to replace the aged seawall, and early in the new year the major upgrades to public amenities will be in full swing.

‘Many locals and visitors from elsewhere will be flocking to Muizenberg over the festive season as this is one of the most popular beaches in Cape Town. I visited the site earlier this week to see how the work is progressing, and to find out what measures will be in place to make holidaymakers’ outing as pleasant as possible, given that the western side of the beachfront is currently under construction. I want to thank the local community and business owners in particular, for their ongoing support and cooperation. This investment in the Muizenberg beachfront will mitigate the impact of climate change for decades to come, safeguard underground services infrastructure such as sewer, stormwater and water mains, and importantly, improve visitors’ overall experience with new and upgraded amenities,’ said the City’s Deputy Mayor and Mayoral Committee Member for Spatial Planning and Environment, Alderman Eddie Andrews.

The upgrade of the eastern parking area in front of the civic centre is complete and fully accessible to the public.

Temporary ablutions will be available and functional during the builders’ break to be ready for when work commences early in January 2026; and the Shark Spotters office will also be placed on top of the ablution facility to be ready for when work starts in the central area next year.

'Currently, the large precast sections of the new main promenade and stepped revetment section at Surfer’s Corner are being delivered in batches, and placed, using cranes. This work will continue until 19 December.

‘We are excited to welcome visitors to Muizenberg this festive season. Best is to come early on the busy beach days, and to be patient as traffic flow to and from the beachfront will be slow during the peak periods. Please adhere to the signage, and stay clear of the fenced off areas, but most importantly, be safe and enjoy yourselves,’ said Alderman Andrews.

End
| 2025-12-03T22:00:00Z | GP0|#1d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70;L0|#01d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70|City news;GTSet|#62efe227-07aa-45e7-944c-ceebacca891d | | | | | GP0|#ff0b55f9-77e2-44c8-8ba0-61504af16684;L0|#0ff0b55f9-77e2-44c8-8ba0-61504af16684|Beach;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GP0|#deea27c8-fc1a-4357-bdbb-d54cb86a0ef9;L0|#0deea27c8-fc1a-4357-bdbb-d54cb86a0ef9|Muizenberg;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GP0|#29e39a5a-e609-4189-a4db-9cee8a24dc95;L0|#029e39a5a-e609-4189-a4db-9cee8a24dc95|Upgrade;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb | 1 | | | | | | | | | | | 0 |
