<a href="https://www.saidinational.org/?page_id=931" target="_blank">Southern African Institute of Driving Instructors (SAIDI)<i class="icon link-external"></i></a> in order to teach learner drivers how to drive. Before you can register, you need to apply for an instructor’s certificate. Follow the process below to find out how.</p></div> | <span>
<h2 class="sectHeading">Requirements</h2></span>
<ul><li>If you want to instruct for more than one code, you have to apply and pay for each code separately. </li><li> You can only apply at a driving licence testing centre graded with the code you are applying for. </li><li> You can only instruct for the code you applied for. </li><li> You must pass a written learners test and a practical drivers test. </li><li> You must produce a medical certificate completed by a medical practitioner. </li><li> You must undergo a criminal record check and provide a criminal clearance certificate. </li></ul>
<h2 class="sectHeading">Apply</h2><p>
<strong>Step 1: </strong>Download and complete the Instructor Registration Application Form (R1) from the document download section below. </p><h4>The application must be accompanied by:</h4><ul><li>a copy of your driving licence;</li><li>a copy of your identity document;</li><li>the application fee of R165; and </li><li> two identical black and white ID photographs; </li></ul><p>
<strong>Step 2: </strong>Submit the completed application form together with all supporting documents at your nearest
<a href="https://www.capetown.gov.za/Family%20and%20home/see-all-city-facilities/our-service-facilities/Drivers%20licence%20testing%20centres/">driving licence testing centre</a>.</p><h4>If all of the above is in order, you'll be required to:</h4><ul><li>
<a href="https://www.saps.gov.za/services/applying_clearence_certificate.php"> Apply for a criminal clearance certificate from the South African Police Service (SAPS)<i class="icon link-external"></i></a>.</li><li> Obtain a medical certificate from a medical practitioner at your own cost. The medical form (Form MC) can be downloaded from the document download section below.</li></ul><p>
<strong>Step 3: </strong>Your completed forms will be sent to the
<a href="https://www.westerncape.gov.za/dept/tpw" target="_blank">Department of Transport and Public Works
<i class="icon link-external"></i></a>for authorisation. Once we receive notice of their approval, you will be contacted to come in and book an appointment (free of charge) for the tests (practical and theory).</p><p>If you pass both tests, you'll receive your certificate after paying the required fee. The instructor’s certificate is valid for 12 months and must be renewed annually.</p><h4>What to bring when you collect your certificate:</h4><ul><li>Acceptable Identification (ID document) </li><li>R33.00 for the issuing of the certificate </li></ul><h2 class="sectHeading">Register</h2><p>Once you receive your certificate, you can register with the
