Information for Visitors

Welcome to Cape Town - we hope you have a peaceful, joyful and enriching experience.
Tourism is one of Cape Town's greatest assets as it generates income and creates jobs,
business and other opportunities.

Through its Tourism development department, the City of Cape Town is committed  to
ensuring that tourism is led by local government, driven by the private sector, and firmly
based in local communities and organisations.

The City's Tourism Development Framework aims to develop and maintain tourism
attractions, facilities and infrastructure in a sustainable way, and build the capacity
of local business to benefit from the opportunities offered through the tourism industry.

The City has therefore developed tourism routes such as the Cape Care Route (to
showcase sustainable development), and the Southern Line tourist train route between
Cape Town and Simon's Town.

The Cape Care Route includes destinations such as the community-based BEN Bicycle
Workshop in Masiphumelele (near Kommetjie); Imvubu Nature Tours within the
Rondevlei Nature Reserve (Grassy Park); Philani Nutrition and Development, a
community weaving centre and crèche; Zezamele Adventures charters to Seal Island,
Cape Point, and the Boulders' penguin colony; Victoria Mxenge Saving Scheme in
Khayelitsha (led by women who are building their own homes); and the Tsoga Resource Environmental Centre in Langa.

Cape Town Routes Unlimited (CTRU) is the tourism marketing body for Cape Town and
the Western Cape. Created in April 2004, it is the amalgamation of Cape Town Tourism
and the Western Cape Tourism Board.

The organisation will provide information and reservations for:

  • Accomodation
