Mitchells Plain CBD and transport interchange 

Components of this project that have been completed:
Status as at November 2011: 

  • Western terminal 
  • Northern terminal 
  • Southern terminal 
  • Northern terminal parking area 
  • Administrative building 
  • Landscaping 
  • CCTV cameras 
  • Upgrade to SAPS police station 
  • Upgrade to the clinic 
  • New detective branch 
  • New magistrate court 
  • New road infrastructure 
  • Promenade mall upgrade

Phase 2 - upgrading of Mitchells Plain CBD area
Status as at November 2011: 

  • Martin and East Pty were appointed as the contractor 
  • The project implementation had commenced 
  • CLO has been appointed 
  • Site construction complete

The construction period is 12 months. The components are as follows: 

  • Upgrading of informal trading bays 
  • Lighting in the public spaces 
  • Provision of public furniture 
  • Provision of traders shelters 
  • Upgrade of ablution facilities 
  • Upgrading of trading roof

The value of the project is R31 million.

Phase 3 - construction of Link Road
Status as at November 2011: 

  • The project is currently in design planning process 
  • The acquisition of land is in process 
  • Commitment gained from Business Body Corporate to sell the land to the City

The estimated value of the project R12 million.
