Bush clearing

Dense bushes that form possible crime hot spots in the Khayelitsha and Mitchell’s Plain areas need to be cleared or cut back, and alien vegetation removed.

Social Crime Prevention Projects are tasked with the identification of all dense bush areas that are a potential safety and fire hazard. This information informs the bush clearing projects of the Urban Renewal Planning Department (URP).

URP is also involved in bush clearing for housing developments in the nodes, such as the Watergate Housing Development.

URP works in consultation with various partners and City departments to identify and clear bushes. These include:

  • SAPS in Khayelitsha and Mitchell Plain
  • City Parks
  • Environmental Health
  • Planning and Development
  • City Maps
