Significance

Tourism is one of the fastest growing industries and contributes significantly to the Gross Domestic product of the region.

Implications

The number of international arrivals in the Western Cape has increased significantly with the total spend doubling over the four years.  The increase in international arrivals slowed between 2006 and 2007 and the total spend declined.  Domestic tourism increased from 2005 to 2006.
