A census is currently the most comprehensive source of socio-economic and demographic information available for local level analysis. The last South African census was conducted in October 2001 and the initial data was released on 8 July 2003. The next census is scheduled for 2011.
The 2001 census data for the City of Cape Town is available at subcouncil, ward, suburb and sub-place levels. The size of the municipal population has been recorded as 2 893 251 people who live in 759 765 households. The data in the following reports has been supplied by Statistics SA.
