As a resident of Cape Town we invite you to participate in the preparation of the City Spatial Development Framework and eight District Spatial Development Plans / Environmental Management Frameworks.
Throughout 2008 and in the first half of 2009, the City will be engaging with the public to find out how people in Cape Town view the future of our city and their districts. You will have an opportunity to participate in this planning exercise in three stages.
Stage one
Between February and April 2008 the City held a first round of community meetings in each of the 23 subcouncils, as well as city-wide stakeholder meetings. The purpose of this first round of workshops with the was to gather the public’s views and vision for the future of Cape Town as a whole.
The City will also ask provincial and national government, town planners, community and environmental groups, developers and architects for their advice and input.
In preparing this draft, the City will also look at how it aligns with the Western Cape Provincial Spatial Development Framework.
Stage two
Between October 2008 and April 2009, the City will hold a second round of community meetings in each of the districts as well as open days in each of the subcouncils and with city-wide stakeholders.
At these meetings the City will present, discuss and debate the proposed draft SDF and eight SDPs.
Draft plans and documents will be made available in advance of this round of meetings and will be posted on this website. Once the draft plans have been revised according to the comments received from this round of meetings, these plans will be submitted to the Provincial Government: Western Cape (PG:WC) for provisional inspection.
Stage three
After the ‘go-ahead’ from the PG:WC, the plans will be advertised for a third and final opportunity for written public comment.
In May 2007 and January 2008 the City invited members of the public to register their interest in participating in the preparation of these plans for Cape Town. Now that it has been confirmed that Environmental Management Frameworks are to be prepared for each of the districts as part of this project, the public are being given another opportunity to register their interest in participating in the preparation of these integrated spatial and environmental plans, if you have not already done so.
If you have not registered and would still like to do so, or if you would like to confirm your registration, please contact Delshe on 021 425 4420, Fax: 021 425 4421 or write to Ms Delport at distinctivechoice1@mwebbiz.co.za.
