Progress on Atlantic Road (Muizenberg main road)
On Section 1 of the north-bound road, the sewer has been laid and the adjacent properties reconnected. In addition, the 300mm-diameter water main has been laid, and the valves hydrants and the new erf connections have beeb installed.
This new water line is currently being filled, chlorinated and pressure tested, then the connection between the new and the old water main will be installed.
The installation of subsoil drains and replacement of the sandstone kerbs are about 30% complete, and the excavation for the road bed is underway.
Work is about five weeks behind the original programme, mostly because of extraordinary rainfall at the beginning of July.
The City has therefore approved an extension of four weeks, and official contract completion date is now 31 August 2009. Based on current progress, work on Section 2 (south-bound) will begin in January 2009. |
Slow down on Hospital Bend at night
Motorists using the city bound lanes on Hospital Bend at night must reduce speed, because the contractor is using temporary concrete barriers to narrow the lanes, to provide the necessary working space for earth-stabilising measures. The barriers will be in position from 8pm to 5.30am and traffic flow will be slowed. |
Hospital Bend: work on SAN Parks land is not permanent

The construction team requires extra working space and this temporary encroachment onto National Parks land has been agreed to by SAN Parks. Affected areas will be reinstated after completion of the work. |
