A BOUNDARY WALLS AND FENCES POLICY FOR CAPE TOWN

INVITATION TO COMMENT ON THE DRAFT POLICY ON BOUNDARY WALLS AND FENCES FOR THE PLANNING AND BUILDING DEVELOPMENT MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY OF CAPE TOWN

The Planning and Building Development Management Department of the City of Cape Town has released a draft policy on Boundary Walls and Fences.  The draft is aimed at balancing the right of homeowners to a save and secure environment with the need to preserve the amenity of the neighbourhood.

In addition to serving as a guide to home owners and developers, it would provide City officials with a common reference framework in assessing applications for the erection of boundary walls and fences as part of Council’s statutory development management function.

The draft policy is available at:

Oral submissions will be heard by all 23 Subcouncils when they discuss the draft policy during the October 2008 cycle of meetings.  Notice of these meetings will appear separately in the press.  Those wishing to address their local Subcouncil on this draft policy should reserve a time slot by calling the Subcouncil manager in their area in advance.

Further enquiries may be directed to Peter Henshall-Howard on telephone no 021 400 2049 or by e-mail to Peter.Henshall-Howard@capetown.gov.za
