In Heinz Park, a relatively poor community in the Southern District of Cape Town, City Parks celebrated Arbor Month by hosting a special event and planting 30 fiscus trees.
The Heinz Park community takes an active role in improving their surroundings. Rose Classen, a resident, told media and guests at the event about developments that had benefitted the area, such as the Nobuhle Women’s Organisation, which runs a community food garden next to the park. Community partnerships with City Parks such as this one assists in reducing vandalism in parks.
