The second IRT Project Report, which was completed at the end of February 2010, deals with the work undertaken in January 2010.
The report includes an update on the projected cost estimates for all aspects of the system, details of ongoing infrastructure work and estimated completion dates. Key milestones that affect the project include the amalgamation of two directorates in the City to improve project coordination; the advertising of posts for the Director: IRT Implementation and Director IRT Operations positions; the awarding of the first contract to a company of minibus taxi operators, TransPeninsula Investments; and research into public views of the system’s branding.
The report describes the outcomes of a comprehensive review of the previous modelling process, which will inform a revised, detailed Business Plan for the IRT system that is due for completion by April 2010. A Due Diligence Study is also underway.
Other highlights include an examination of advertising opportunities in the system, details of the engagement with the existing minibus-taxi and bus industries around the World Cup service contract and with the National Department of Transport regarding funding models.
